Picking the right music is so important

I know how annoying and time consuming it can be looking for that perfect sound track. I would spend hours and hours looking for the right song. But then another few hours trying to find one that was royalty free and didnt cost a lot of money.

Now, there are so many websites you can pick to get your music from. But for me, the one that I use for every project is artlist. The reason for this is its designed with content creators in mind. It has really use friendly filters so I can look through what type of style of music I want or I can pick where it will be used for example a fashion commerical, vlog, tiktok etc. Now moving onto tiktok. So many clients these days want content not just for their website but also for their social media accounts. Artlist has you covered for everything. This is great for me as it gives me that peace of mind that everything is covered.

The type of plan I have is the commercial plan.

If you want to try it out, I am now partnered with Artlist so I have an affliate link here:

which allows you have get 2 months free from your yearly plan. I have used Artlist for a few years now and I wouldnt recommend it if I didnt see value in it.

Let me know if you decide to try it out and what your thoughts are.

Talking at The Photography Show

So I wanted to share my experience talking at the Photography show, for Wex Photo and Video and how important it is to say yes to opportunities even when it scares you.

When Wex reached out to me to do a talk, I immediately said yes and I was really excited. Then shortly after I remembered I hate public speaking and its completely out of my comfort zone. 😱

I was so nervous, the most nervous I have been in a while.

So why did I do it?

I know that being uncomfortable often leads to the most growth. (But it doesn’t mean that I always enjoy the process.) Stepping onto that stage was terrifying for me.

But I did my talk and it went down well and I felt great afterwards.

We always tend to doubt ourselves and what we are capable of. Especially if its something we are not familiar with. But you will be surprised with that you can do when you put your mind to it.

So this is your reminder to go out and kick some ass. 😉 You’ve got this. 🎉

How to stay motivated as a freelance videographer” webinar with B&H photo

This week I streamed a live webinar for B&H Photo about, “How do I stayed motivated as a freelancer?” I get asked this question a lot.

During the pandemic in England, where I am based, we are back in our 3rd national lockdown, so work can feel harder than normal and a lack of motivation has struck many creatives.

In this webinar I shared some tips and tricks on how I was able to find new clients, remain creative and focused, and build my freelance career in the middle of a pandemic.

The aim of this webinar was I wanted to help other videographers/freelancers, or even anyone feeling unmotivated, to watch this webinar and feel inspired.

If you would like to watch this webinar, the link is below to the vimeo:

I meet so many incredible womxn that tell me they suffer from imposter syndrome.

So what is imposter syndrome?

Imposter syndrome is an overwhelming feeling that you don’t deserve success. It convinces you that you are not intelligent enough, creative, or talented.

Can you believe that? There are womxn who have worked for years crafting their talent and skills they believe they don’t deserve it?

It’s crucial to remember we are not born feeling less worthy than others, but it is a result of continually being treated as though we are not enough. When you experience systemic oppression directly or indirectly your entire life, that you are less-than or not worthy of success and then you begin to achieve things, it goes completely against that ingrained long-standing narrative you have created. This will inevitability result in imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome is not merely a lack of confidence – it is the logical outcome of a world that was never designed for womxn to be successful through internalised misogyny. It’s not that womxn do not believe in themselves, it’s more the world refuses to believe in womxn.

I get messages all the time from womxn on how I have the confidence and courage to post my work, my ideas, my thoughts and ignore the misogynistic comments I inevitably receive from putting myself out there.

In Michelle Obama’s book, she has written about how as a young woman, she would lie awake at night asking herself: Am I too loud? Too much? Dreaming too big? “Eventually I just got tired of always worrying what everyone else thought of me.”

Quiet that inner voice and next time it tells you that you are not good enough or that you don’t belong. Remind yourself:

  • I am worthy
  • I am talented
  • I am smart
  • I am enough
  • I deserve this.

I want to remind any womxn reading this, that they can achieve their goals. To be fearless. To be unapologetic. To know they are worthy of everything they want and so much more.

Don’t let that inner voice stop you.

So here it is the rumoured FX3, just weeks after the Sony A1 bombshell.

Now remember, this is a rumour so take everything here with a pinch of salt. 😅

The interesting thing about the Sony FX3 is that it is part of the cine camera series (Such as Sony FX9) however, it also bears the Alpha mark (“a”) that suggests it is part of Sony’s mirrorless camera range.

Its been rumoured this could basically be a Sony A1 in a smaller body with more video features, which could be a very attractive option especially if Sony keeps the prices down. 😁

Another interesting thing about this camera is the top plate revealed a joystick, which is something we have never seen before.

Similar to when the Sony A1 was launched as a direct competitor to the CanonR5, the Sony FX3 is set to be CanonC70’s nearest competitor, including other compact cinema cameras such as the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K.

With the release of the SonyA7siii and Sony A1 they both lack a lot of the Cinema Line features and maybe now you will know why. One thing that does look certain is that Sony will be unveiling everything on 25th – 28th February.

So let’s keep our eyes peeled. 🎉

Live Streaming at Future Yard

Great time shooting a live stream for Natalie Mccool & I am Pixey at Future Yard

We all know the pandemic has halted almost all traditional forms of production, events, and human interaction, forcing everyone to explore new ways to stay connected.

Social media has been very powerful in keeping us all connected and allows us to provide a sense of shared experience and community. It has also allowed many of us to explore the possibilities and power of live streaming.

Don’t shy away from your uniqueness

You might not believe me, but people have called me weird so so many times.

😂

I have been called obsessed because I’m passionate about the things I love.

I have been called uptight for having self-respect. I have been called anti-social because I’m comfortable being in my own company. The list goes on!

I used to shy away from my own individuality, I used to say yes to things I did not want to do to please other people. However, eventually, I had enough and I thought to myself “Am I doing what makes me happy?”

Don’t let your individuality get taken away from you just so you can fit in with the rest of society, a friendship group, or so on.

Embrace your Individuality, authenticity is rare these days. Don’t shy away from your uniqueness. Life shouldn’t feel limiting.

Finding comfort in discomfort

Each time that you put yourself out there, each time that you try something new you are taking a risk…

That’s nothing profound we all know that there is no growth in your comfort zone.. so you’ve just got to take your pick..

You either risk it or you stay the same..

If you fear the possibility of embarrassing yourself …
If you fear the risk of failing …
If you fear the possibility of someone not liking you …

Then you will never take a chance and then there is no possibility of you getting better or growing. Whether it’s personal growth or business growth.

You don’t owe anyone anything, and you don’t have to be liked by everyone. Don’t let people’s opinions stop you from pushing yourself and doing what you love.

I know the only times I have really learnt or grown substantially have been from putting myself in new uncomfortable situations. Likewise some of the best experiences that have happened to me have happened through pushing myself and being completely out of my comfort zone.

We need to stop thinking failure is a bad thing. We need to stop worrying about people’s opinions. Most people are so self-involved they don’t judge other people. Seriously.

That one memory that keeps you up at night from something embarrassing in high school has been instantly forgotten by everyone else, who are kept up by their own embarrassments. Laugh it off and move forward.

Being vulnerable is brave. Trying something new is brave. Knowing you are going to fail, make mistakes and mess up and still trying again is brave.

Here’s some photos of my first assault course a few years ago, I remember when they did the countdown and I thought “oh crap.. what am I doing”.
